This page is intended for extra pictures of some of the exceptional icelandic sheep here at
Northern Maine Icelandics.
"ELEN" NMI-431P     Only a yearling, she is already showing  exceptional muscling and body structure.  Note both her shoulders and hips are well rounded with muscle, and her hips are wider than her shoulders, which is desireable.  (Sorry we couldn't get her to stand normally!)  Elen is giving a lot of milk to her lamb, so her backbone is starting to show a little, but her back will fill in again after the lamb is weaned.   Elen is 7/8ths AI, with all her AI ancestors except Kani being very low, broad, & heavily muscled.  The more the DNA strand is loaded up with high quality through successive AI breedings, the more consistent the offspring will be, with fewer undesireable characteristics which would relegate them to the slaughterhouse.  Remember, she is only going to get BETTER as she matures!

"TOLKIS"  NMI-428P      Tolkis really surprised us when we finally divested him of his thick fleece this spring.  We knew he was potentially a very good ram, but when we finally sheared him,  we were very impressed with his size and sleek, well-rounded muscling reminiscient of his AI ancestors "Butur" and "Flotti",  both being very large, heavy rams that have seen lots of 'action' in Iceland.  Notice Tolkis' perfect back muscling, thick rump, fully muscled shoulders, and legmuscling filling in his crotch.  Remember, he is ONLY a yearling, and will likely only get bigger, with even THICKER muscling!  (Rams usually peak at 3 years.)
